dsl modem

I just noticed on your web page, mr. president you mention that the 
nortel 1 Meg Modem is not ADSL, I was suprised to hear this.  I guess 
sympatico might have stopped using this type of modem for a while now, 
it's been years since I used it, can you explain what kind of protocol 
it really is?
