All releases of System V (and its immediate predecessor, System III) were
explicitly excluded from the "ancient Unix releases" freeing. And yes,
the kernel did change quite a bit between V7/32V and the later System Vs.
Depends on just when the secret sauce was put in, but quite plausibly it
could have been after V7 and 32V.
