Fantastic Anton, I have kino installed. This is the way Linux out to be.
I'm still getting an error that libquicktime.so.0 isn't there, but I
should be able to find it (I hope).
By the way, have you done any video transfer in the other direction (PC
to camera)? I am trying dvbackup/dvconnect, but it can't open device
video1394 ("no such device"), even though it's there.
