Hi - would've loved to join you all tonight, but I got stuck in the
east end and can't make it out.

At the last GTALUG Operations/Board meeting, the Board decided we
really should take a look at redoing the logo. In case you'd
forgotten what it looks like, or you didn't know that we had one,
here's what it looks like:
https://gtalug.org/static/img/gtalug-logo-small.png

Apart from some questions over whether we really should be using the
official mascot of the Linux kernel for userspace activities, our
logo's served us well, but could do with a refresh. So here's what
we're looking for in a logo:

something that distinctively captures the spirit of GTALUG:
we're in the GTA, and we do Linux …

something that can be reproduced under a Suitable Open
Licence; GTALUG may decide to sell things with the logo as a fundraising
thing in future, so any *-NC licence shouldn't be used

It would be really nice if we could get this as a vector file
so we can laser-engrave/3d print/make colossal sintered
chocolate versions/… as is seen fit. We know Linux can scale, so
our logo should too.

The guidelines:

We can't pay much, if anything, for the new logo. Credit and
link for sure. Money we'd have to approve at Board level ahead
of time, so please don't work this up at your hourly rate and
present us with an invoice.

Send suggestions to me by e-mail, Inkscape-compatible SVG
preferred. My e-mail address is scruss@gmail.com

We'll be running this for at least a couple of months, or
until a suitable logo is found

If you're okay with it, we'll put contenders up on the GTALUG
wiki for all to see

This is open to all; you don't have to be a GTALUG member

If something is missing from this process, we can discuss it
on the list, but submissions should really go off-list to
minimize subscriber ire

So let's see what you come up with! It's gotta be better than my
initial ideas, all of which involved greater-than redirections and
lugnuts* …
Best Wishes,
Stewart
*: ‘>🔩’ kinda thing. Yeah, no.
